Shelly’s Flower

Earlier this week did an open paint at Salad World-West that featured Shelly’s Flower. It was requested by the owner as the image we would paint that night. I must admit, I did not think anything about using this image until I went to Yoga class last evening and it was brought to my attention that this was “Shelly’s Flower” and that the meaning behind it needs to be addressed to all that painted it.

Last year I was contacted from a group of ladies in my yoga class about doing a tribute paint party to their dear friend Shelly Mehringer. She too was a regular at our yoga studio, and had passed away suddenly a few weeks before. Shelly was the art instructor at Christ the King here in Evansville. Her friends had sent me this image to re-create for their party because it was originally done by Shelly. The party was a tribute as well as a fundraiser for an endowment for art education at Christ The King, St. Ben’s and Memorial.  I have kept the image on my site as an example of what can be done and have done for private parties. It is a great image. I have always listed it as Shelly’s Flower, however it did not occur to me to post why.

A portion of the proceeds from this week’s event and any future event using this image will be donated to the Shelly C. Mehringer Art Endowment. Donations can be made to the endowment by contacting Irene Moschner at the Catholic Foundation here in Evansville, who oversees the endowment. My sincere apologies to friends and family for not explaining about this image to those who painted it. It is a great image.
